Cozy B&B at Koli

Click to Kolin Runo’s own webpage.

Kolin Runo is a cozy bed and breakfast at Koli. We are located near the famous scenery from the hills and the National Park. Summer paths and cross-country skiing tracks are all close by.

We have three different rooms for our quests to choose from, two common lounges of which one with a fireplace and naturally we have a sauna. Facilities are shared with the rooms.

The surrounding is very calm and tranquil even that we are located close to the main attractions. You can get to the skiing tracks and summer paths by 10 minutes walk. Village and the nature center on top of the hill you can reach in 30 minutes by foot.

Kolin Runo is a family run business with a host living on site so we’ll share our knowledge about the possibilities of the area and the stories of the old days and mythical tales that have been told in the area by our ancestors.

Our breakfast

For breakfast we serve common Finnish breakfast with bread made with rye and oats served with ham, cheese and vegetables. We also prepare a porridge usually from spelt which is a full flavored old type of semolina. If yoghurt and muesli are more for you taste of course you’ll find those with fruit of the season, jam from Finnish berries and seeds not forgetting tee, coffee and juice.

We favor naturally crown and fair-trade products and always try to find something locally produced for every season. We can meet the requirements of several special dietary requirements, such as vegan or gluten-free, especially by prebooking.

Common areas

The guest rooms are located on the second floor of the house. The upstairs lounge has couches, a television and a few games to play, also a fridge for little snacks and a large terrace in the afternoon sun facing the yard. Shared facilities are located on both floors: one toilet is upstairs and another one and showers are downstairs.

Breakfast is served downstairs. Evenings you may sit by a fireplace or ask for a sauna to relax like a Finn. By request we heat up our wood-heated oven and simmer a Finnish Karelian meat stew of vegan bean and vegetable stew for supper.

Parking is free at the premises. If you come by bicycle you can put your bike into our garage to keep it sheltered from the rain and falling leaves. If you are into skiing we have a room where you can service your skis aswell.

Tall pine trees shadow the yard and during the berry season you might find some blueberries by the driveway of wild strawberries from the sunny patches around the house.

Sustainability

We live from the nature and local culture, so it is very important for us to act sustainably in everything we do. We favor local and Finnish products, use renewable energy, try to minimize our waste and sort what is left.

If you are traveling by public transport, you can take a bus from Joensuu to Ahmovaara (about 15 mins drive from Koli) and then take a connecting mini-bus or a taxi to the village. During the summer months there is likely to be a ferry connection from Vuonislahti (on the other side of lake Pielinen) where you can get by a mini-train.  If you need help to find connections to visit us, please do not hesitate to ask, and we’ll help you.

If cycling is your way of traveling, you can find picturesque small gravel roads to get here and then explore the area further or even cycle around Lake Pielinen.
